The Order of Light
They had come at night, it was raining, and the dirt roads into town were beginning to flood. The three riders rode quietly, with a wolf following closely behind. Each rider wore a long dark cloak and the white horses that they rode were covered in mud from the rain. The from out of the Inn window they looked like ghosts on the river Styx, following the current of souls beneath them. The first rider stopped in front of the Inn and tied his horse. My mother was asleep when he came to the front door and knocked politely.
Can I help you? I said as I opened the door. The other riders had not dismounted and waited in the street.
Yes, Miss, we need a room for the night. the first rider said pulling back his hood. for myself and my companions, if you could.
I have one room available, but it only has one bed. Will that work for you sir?
It will, Thank you miss. the man bowed and went back to the other riders.
